Toad In The Hole


A traditional English dish.

Recipe Ingredients

½ pound of sausages
½ pint of milk
4oz (one cup) all-purpose flour
One egg
A pinch of salt
A little oil

Preparation and cooking instructions

Preheat the oven to 425°(110°C).
Make a batter by sifting the flour and salt into a bowl then make a well in the middle and crack the egg into this, add a quarter of a pint of the milk and beat together, add the rest of the milk and beat well until smooth. Now put a little oil in a baking pan or dish and heat in the oven until quite hot. Carefully remove from the oven, pour in the batter and lay the sausages in the batter. Cook for approximately thirty minutes at 425°(110°C). Serve hot.
